Shopfitting and retail fit-out jobs
shopconsult is not a general job board. Shopfitters, interior fit-out firms and retail service providers post roles here for people who plan, build and install retail spaces – from the workshop to store opening.
Job ads are shown in the employer's original language.
Roles in shopfitting
Shopfitting combines craft, planning and site logistics. These are the roles employers look for most:
Joiner / cabinet maker (Tischler / Schreiner)
Builds store furniture, counters and wall systems in the workshop, often with CNC. Germany: three-year dual apprenticeship with journeyman exam; Austria: apprenticeship with final exam; Switzerland: Schreiner/in EFZ (four years).
Installer / shopfitting fitter
Installs furniture, shelving, ceilings and lighting on site. Expect travel, night or weekend shifts while stores keep trading, and work to brand standards.
Site and project manager
Coordinates trades, schedules, budgets and handovers – from single stores to roll-outs. Common paths: master craftsman, technician, Swiss federal diploma for site managers, or a degree in wood technology, construction or interior architecture.
Interior architecture & CAD planning
Design, shop drawings and installation plans in tools such as AutoCAD, Vectorworks or production software. In Germany the title Innenarchitekt is tied to chamber registration; many planning roles ask for a technical qualification instead.
Sales & business development
Advises retailers and brands, prepares estimates and proposals. Industry knowledge, technical understanding and willingness to travel in the DACH region are typical requirements.
Germany, Austria, Switzerland: key differences
Germany
Dual apprenticeship (Tischler), further training as master craftsman or state-certified technician. Pay is often based on regional collective agreements for the joinery trade – details are in each ad.
Austria
Apprenticeship as Tischler or Tischlereitechnik with final exam, later master or qualification exam. Pay is oriented on collective agreements; Austrian ads usually state a minimum salary.
Switzerland
Schreiner/in EFZ or Schreinerpraktiker/in EBA, further training via federal professional exams. Many firms are covered by a collective labour agreement. Whether a permit is needed depends on nationality and residence status.
